OUR SOLAR POWER PLANT

In 2025, Gigawatt commenced with the construction of a 16MW solar plant adjacent to its gas fired power plant. Gigawatt appointed WBHO as the EPC contractor, while Hatch assisted Gigawatt as Owners Engineer.

The solar plant was successfully commissioned in January 2026. The power generated from the solar plant is primarily used to supplement the gas engines during times of maintenance and when the gas engines experience efficiency degradation during high temperature days. Any surplus power can also be sold into the grid.

The solar and gas fired power plants operate as a hybrid power plant, showing the supporting nature of gas and renewable power.

Gigawatt continues to look at ways to further expand the power plant. Improvements in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) technology and pricing is an exciting next step to further enhance and support the gas and solar power plants. Gigawatt is engaging with BESS suppliers and studying future market trends to see how best to incorporate this technology into the greater power plant.
